SUBWAY has just shot themselves ...

... in the foot.

BIG TIME.

To learn how they managed to do this Click here! To see the official Contest Rules that clearly bans home schools from participating click here. If you care to share your opinion on this contest here are a few ways of contacting their headquarters in Mitford Connecticut.
We used to be big fans of SUBWAY... but we are waiting to see how they handle this huge gaffe before we give anymore of our homeschoolers business to them. And we will be adding our two bits in their mailbox. Too bad they don't have email!

I know this has nothing to do with this post, but how did the house go? Did y'all get the house?

Hi Carrie:

No - at this point we do not have the house. :-( We qualified for a mortgage because we have such a large down payment to put down. However, due to a number of difficult years being self employed - we have a lousy credit score and so we have to have an FHA loan. Which will mean heavy insurance penalties but worse - it is expected that the house will not pass an FHA inspection. (It was built in 1905)

So at this point we have been having individuals check out the possible sore points, electricity, plumbing, roof and the furnace. So far the electricity has passed inspection. (Thank you again Lee!)We feel pretty certain that the plumbing is fine but are hoping to show the video and pictures we took to someone who can be more certain than we are. We need to go back with a ladder and inspect the roof from inside the attic and look for any signs of a possible leak as that is an automatic fail for an FHA loan. We have determined that there is a thermostat which is a good thing - BUT once we know the roof has passed inspection we will need to pay 250 dollars to have the utilities turned on. Then we see if the boiler/furnace turns on. If it does and the radiators heat up... we take the next step. Which is to pay a minimum of 400 dollars to have the actual FHA inspection.

In the meantime we are trying to find time to meet with another finance company to see if they will require an FHA loan. If we could get a conventional loan - we would probably be already moving in!

The house needs a ton of work but nothing that we can not handle! But the essentials are there - stable foundation, new roof, a lot of upgrades and a very nice meighbourhood. In fact the neighbourhood alone has helped the children (who actually do not like the house) feel happy about moving there. The bedrooms are small compared to the house we are renting and they will feel a little cramped as a result BUT we will be safe, near friends and our parish with access to Daily Mass. They are happy about that.

The other consideration we are thinking of is to advertise for a private mortgage for one year. We know we will be able to repair our credit rating and can even pay the first years mortgage payments up front and we are putting close to 50 % down. So it would be a safe investment for a private investor. So please if anyone would care to - add these to your prayers for us that we can pull together the financing. I had hoped, for a change, things would go easily but that does not seem to be in the cards.
God Bless and thank you for asking Carrie. I was wondering whether to share this bad news. I so much prefer to be an uplifting read and we have had a quite a few difficult moments that I have shared in the past. I like to be honest - I do not want to look like the perfect cookie cutter family - when we are a normal family with happy days and bad days. But sometimes I worry about being too negative!
