On my, err her, hmmm, our best behaviour....

Today when we stood up during daily Mass to listen to the Gospel, Emma clambered up onto the pew beside me. When I glanced at her, she leaned towards me and whispered; "I am pretending to be you!"

I am proud to announce that "I" behaved very well.

That brings back memories of me, as a very little child, watching the elders, in the front benches facing us (the way Quaker Meetings USED to be). I never could imagine I would be not only a grown up, but sitting in those facing benches.

On occasion, Ministry and Council sits in facing benches, for example, at Flushing Meeting, for Quarterly Meeting. Its the second oldest house of worship in America, and the oldest Quaker Meeting house in the States (1670s or 80s?). Well,... I fight the feeling that I am like little Emma pretending to be a grown up... My father, shortly before he died said, "People never really grow up inside, we all are little kids pretending to be adults."

Oh, wow. I couldn't stop myself from popping in again as I scroll through your posts to tell you how I'm enjoying the antics of Emma. &:o) But, Lorcan's Dad's quote has stopped me in my tracks. I feel that way still ~ like a child pretending to be a grown-up!
