Lent...

... a time of pennance, repentence and self examiniation. Also known as a time of torture! I have had people talk about how they dread Lent as it is usually a very difficult time. This year just before Lent, as many of you know, we had a local group of guys accidently remove an item and sell it to the metal yard for scrap when this item was actually worth at least 2000 dollars for us. My thought was at the time, well - this is only a short patch. We seem to have them every three or four months. I will just hold on for this roller coaster ride and soon it will smooth out - it always does.

In sharing this piece of bad news with a friend one of her comments was; "Well - I always find Lent very hard for some reason. "
I was horror struck. Lent is FOURTY days long and I quickly rejected the thought that this string of bad luck could last 40 days until my husband reminded me that the past two Lents have been just like how this one started.
I have learned to stop asking - "SO just how BAD can it get. What else can go wrong?" as I have found that is ONE question God consistently answers for us.
But even though I have not asked that question more has indeed gone wrong. I will spare you the details but suffice to say - all that has passed in the last 24 hours has been emotionally painful, humiliating and exhausting.

Next year I think I will try to find a way to hide in a dark cave...maybe somewhere in the wilderness with a dozen loaves of bread and several jars of honey and wait out Lent there. I open to suggestions to any favorite caves you may know of. In the meantime.. prayers continue to be gratefully accepted.

Dear Christi
I shall keep you and your family in my prayers.
Lent is a time of Hope
Ressurection is our Light at the end of the Dark Tunnel
Jesus was entombed in darkness before HIs Glorious Ressurection
May you always feel Jesus' JOy that I know is present in such a lovely family as YOurs.
I was wondering if you all pray the Lenten Prayers on the EWTN site for everyday, with a daily lenten action (you need to click on the main page Picture)
THe prayers are most beautiful and help you to reflect on the true meaning of lent and also effectively relate to the little and large burdens of everday
We did the Advent prayer by Ewtn that was on the same lines and It truly made our Advent and Christmas more special and meaningful.
Love and Prayers

After reading this comment my daughter asked: "Do you ever wonder if anonymous is an angel?"

I agreed with her idead. A comment left anonymously cold indeed be left by an angel.

So your suggestion is I use EWTN as my cave! ;-) A very good idea. We are already using one of EWTN's novenas to St Josef. I will look at their Lenten meditations. EWTN is so an awesome resource. Thank God for Sister Angelica for starting it!!

So your tough times keep getting tougher! That does stink. The other 'cave' you could find respite in is an Adoration chapel if you have one nearby. It will do wonders for your peace of mind and will help calm you.

I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

We are at least 45 minutes (one way) from the nearest adoration chapel. We are currently praying for guidance as to relocation - although given we are three months behind in the rent - this could either be "forced on us" or cause us in the future to have not many options as at this point the land lord cannot honestly give us a good refernce. We would so like to have a home closer to a solid parish where large families are welcome. (Trust me - there are Catholic Parsihes where large families are not wanted as we sadly know from personal experience.)
